As part of the ongoing collaborative workshop on "Social Engineer Capacity Building for Sustainable Local Resource Management (Year 1)," participants moved into the second day of intensive field training. Guided by the RSPG Coordination Center at Rambhai Barni Rajabhat University (RBRU), the team conducted a practical site visit at Moo 4, Baan Mai Khao, Thalang District, Phuket. The team was warmly welcomed by local administrative leaders, including the Secretary to the Chief Executive of the Tambon Administrative Organization (TAO), the Sub-district Headman (Kamnan), the Village Headman, and local residents. The primary mission of the day was Task 2: Surveying and Collecting Local Resources. Using nine specialized data collection worksheets, the participants systematically documented the community’s wealth, covering: Natural Resources: Diverse plant and animal species, and biological assets. Cultural Heritage: Unique local wisdom and community traditions, including: Traditional techniques: Sand spa therapy and post-partum heat therapy (Yu Fai). Culinary arts: Local methods for preparing Phuket-style "Khao Yam" (herbal rice salad) and the cultivation of "Phak Lin Han" (sea lettuce). Artisan crafts: Traditional weaving and tie-dye techniques. Local skills: The unique indigenous method of catching mole crabs (sand crabs). This comprehensive data collection is a vital step toward developing an accurate Local Resource Database, which will serve as the foundation for future conservation and sustainable development efforts under the RSPG royal initiative.
